Viva Las Vegas

Las Vegas

Remember the days when Las Vegas was glamorous, fun and cheap. I remember just not too long ago when you could go to Vegas for a few hundred dollars and eat, gamble and see the stars. Not any more. Matt, Marnie, Anne, and myself just spent the weekend in sin city and boy do I have stories for you! Stories about food, hotels and entertainment, if that’s what you can call it! I will tell you all the different adventures we had over the next few days.

Diet Coke Fountain

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 by Anne

If you’re bored and want to have some fun, give this a try.

Go somewhere with open space such as a park or big back yard first.  Take a cold bottle of diet coke and 5 Mentos mints.  Break the mints in half and drop all 10 pieces in the bottle at the same time.  Stand back and watch the fountain erupt!

Man Shaved For Posting Flyers

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 by Anne

A 17 year old migrant worker in Beijing was just doing his job of posting flyers for a hotel, when he was told to strip down to his underwear.  Men traveling on scooters approached him and said they were city inspectors.  They beat him and stripped him down, told him to get down on his knees and prodeeded to shave his head.

Clashes are common between members of the public and the inspectors.  They are trying to crack down on unlicensed hawkers suspected of selling unsanitary food or fake goods.

In Moscow a 15 year old boy is being treated for frostbite after a two hour airplane ride, outside the plane!  The teen hung onto a Boeing 737 wing after he ran away from home after a fight with his parents.  The flight reached a speed close to 600 mph and doctors treating the boy say it’s a miracle he survived.  Temperatures outside the aircraft dipped to near 60 below zero.  ( is that including windchill? )  His arms and legs were frozen when the jet touched down in Moscow.

You may have seen the commercials for wireless phones with the kids talking (texting) with just letters. I love those commercials, but realized I didn’t know what all the shortcuts meant.  Myself, I like to use the T9 function when I am texting and leave the acronyms for I.M.ing. I guess many people do use these short cuts for texting on the phone too, so I found a website to help me figure out what the heck people are trying to tell me.

Examples:

IDK - I don’t know

BFF - Best friend forever

2moro - tomorrow

GAL - get a life

ITA - I totally agree

The site, Netlingo.com lists everything alphabetically so it’s easy to find what your looking for. But be warned, so of the acronym’s meanings are not rated “G”

Teacher Wants To Bring Gun To School

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 by Anne

An Oregon High School teacher is suing for her right to bring a gun into the classroom for personal protection.

The teacher has a legal permit to carry a concealed handgun.

The teacher’s identity is being concealed to protect her from an abusive ex-husband who has made threats against her and her two children.  She said the school district can’t protect her enough.

Anti-gun advocates used the Columbine tragedy as an example of the need for tighter gun controls.  After the Virginia Tech shooting in April, some pro-gun advocates have argued that teachers and students should be armed to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The  school district argues that being gun-free is a condition of her employment and that they have the right to regulate the conduct of its employees.

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 by Anne

He is now being tattooed with white designs on top of the black, and colored designs on top of the white!
