Are You Addicted to E-Mail?

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007 by Marnie

I ran across this article on WebMD about how many of us are addicted to e-mail.

According to a recent America Online poll, 41% of adults check their e-mail right out of bed in the morning, before even brushing their teeth!  25% of adults believe it’s unthinkable to go more than two or three days with checking their e-mail.

Here are some tips from the article to help you loosen the grip your e-mail has on you, good luck!

  • Work with your e-mail, not against it. Some programs, like Outlook, allow you to check for e-mail only every 15 minutes or half hour
  • Turn off the “ding” that alerts you to new messages
  • Send certain messages, like thank you notes or birthday cards, by snail mail only
  • Set an unwavering e-mail timeframe, and tell yourself that e-mail is not allowed before or after the set times
  • Never make e-mail the first thing you do in the morning or the last thing you do at night

If all else fails, try to close up e-mail shop completely for a few days. You’ll discover that the tangled worldwide web you weave can, in fact, exist without the World Wide Web.

Shave Those Legs

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Marnie

It may be wrong to talk about this, but I just heard another woman say she was going to stop shaving her legs now that it’s cold.  No wearing shorts. . .no need to shave.

Okay, I have heard this from numerous women in the past and have always thought, no…you should keep shaving your legs.  Why?  Well, one, I would think your husband or boyfriend prefers smooth, silky legs to hairy legs like his own on a cold winters night.  Reason two,  women tend to let themselves go and that is damaging to one’s self esteem.  If you look good, you feel good.

I think this is a secret not many talk about.  I searched for pictures of hairy woman legs and found nothing worth looking at.  I found men’s legs and even spider’s legs but no pictures of women’s unshaven legs.  I know they are out there!

What the real deal out there?  Do most women continue to shave their legs during winter or am I just unusual?

When I Was A Kid…

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 by Marnie

Matt and I were talking about the excitment we would feel before Christmas.  It turns out one of the joys for both of us was when our mom’s came home with the Sears Wish Book catalog.

For kids today, they may not have the pleasure of curling up on the couch with a marker and circling all the wonderful toys and comfy slippers that they want from Santa, but they have something similiar.   The on-line wish list, is available at most retail websites.  My sister sent me an idea gift list for my young neice and nephew and it was a list from the Toys R Us website.  The kids went on line and checked the items that they wanted.  It took me back to the Sears catalog.  Call me old fashioned but I think the old way was better.  By better I mean, warmer, more of an event, something that became a tradition. It turns out Sears has brought the Wish Book back for 2007.

Maybe on-line shopping will be a tradition for those in this generation.  I hope so, I hope they have the warm memories associated with being a kid at Christmas.

To Do Lists

Monday, November 26th, 2007 by Marnie

                                 todolist2.jpg

Fill in the blanks…as the holidays come around, our to-do lists will grow and grow.  I personally have already started to stress just a bit, with all these things needing to get done floating around in my brain.

Then the old stand-by idea popped in what little room is left in my head.  Write it down!  I am writing everything I want to get done for the holiday down on paper and posting it where I can see it all the time and then easily cross things off when I’m done.  It’s not my planner, it’s not on my laptop…no my list will be posted on the refrigerator!  I’m using the same method for my non-holiday to do list as well.  The other thing to remember is even when everything is crossed off your to-do list, there will be more things to do just around the corner, so give yourself a break, prioritize, and don’t think it all has to be done at once.  Slow and steady wins the race.
