Best Time To Shop

Monday, March 17th, 2008 by Marnie

I’m pretty lucky because I have the weekdays free to get my grocery shopping done.  We have all fought the massive crowds on the weekends.

Turns out the worst time to shop as far as crowds go is 5 p.m to 7 p.m on weekdays and also weekend afternoons.  The least crowded times, Monday through Wednesday mornings.

Give Me A Break

Last night for dinner, I stopped and grabbed some fast food on the way home from work.  As often happens, I got home with the food and the order for Matt was wrong, so he zoomed back to the restaurant and got what I ordered.  Hassle?  Yes.

This happens so much, that we probably all check the bag before we leave, which I regret to say, I didn’t do yesterday.  But apparently some people have a harder time dealing with these minor hassles.

A man in Florida was apparently so mad that he didn’t get the two orders of french fries he ordered from McDonalds, that he rammed his car into the children’s play area and then crashed his car into the side of the building before speeding off.

Police followed the broken glass and tracked him down. He now faces up to two year in jail.

The King in Wax

You know the King that we all have either grown to love or hate in the Burger King commercials? I personally am not a fan of the latest Burger King commercials.  Whether you love him or hate him, he has earned an honor that no other fast food spokesperson has earned.  The King has been cast in wax at Madame Tussauds in New York.  The life size version of the King holding a Whopper on a silver tray will be part of the museum’s collection until February to celebrate the Whopper’s 50th anniversary.

Hey…Don’t Double Dip

Monday, December 10th, 2007 by Marnie

Tis the season for parties and I think some of us are scared to eat the dip in fear that someone before us has double dipped.

According to Parade, researchers at the American University in Washington D.C, dipped, double dipped then tripled dipped chips into salsa, guacamole, soft cheese and a spinach cream spread to see how dangerous double dipping really is.  The results showed that after one hour, the salsa and guacamole had virtually no bacteria.  The other two dips containing dairy, had some bacteria but not as much as expected.

According to Family Circle Magazine, a new study found that people who drink three or more cups of coffee a day are 30% less likely to have memory decline as they get older as people who drink one or less cups per day. The same results for 6 cups of tea.

Glad To Hear It

Boy, was I glad when I read that men tend to be more adventurous when it comes to trying new and unusual foods than women.  I personally am in that group that like to stick to foods I know I like, not adventurous at all.  That sometimes has caused minor uncomfortableness when socializing with the more adventurous eating types.   I just can’t do it, so I tell it like it is and say, hey, just not interested in trying that, but thanks anyway.   It’s nice to know, it may be something I’m prone to as a female.

Saving Money?

I’ve had this idea that eating out is often times cheaper than eating a nice meal at home. I thought maybe it was just my way of justifing the fact that I’m not all about cooking.  Now I did cook at home almost every night for a while, but then of course burn-out sets in and the restaurant meal sounds better and better.

According to Christian Science Monitor, many are abandoning the home kitchen because they feel eating out at a restaurant is cheaper than buying and preparing their own food or because they don’t have time to cook for themselves.  60% of mothers work outside the home and many are now viewing restaurants as extensions of the kitchen on a regular basis.

I’d like your opinion.  My own little non-scientific survey.

Which fast food restaurant or chain has the BEST french fries?

My vote goes to Red Robin, then Goodtimes a close second.  Do you agree?
