“Glamour” reports that researchers from the University of Louisville found that woman quickly positively judged men between 5′ 10″ and 6′ 2″ as desirable.   Height indicates power, strength and dominance, all qualities women subconsciously seek in a mate.  Height also is an asset for other things.  It turns out that almost always, the taller man wins the election, gets the job and lands the higher pay.

Why Are You Tired?

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 by Marnie

Turns out cell-phones, faxes and computers raise fatigue for more than half the of Americans who use them five days a week.  These distracting and noisy items increase cortisol, the stress hormone that overstimulates the nervous system, leaving you tired and draggy.    Experts recommend to take two 20 minute breaks from the noise daily and cut your stress hormone production by 50 percent.

If you stay in hotels, you’ll want to see this video. Once you do, you’ll never drink out of the glasses there again:

According to Woman’s World, the wider a pregnant mom’s hips are the more likely she is to give birth to a child with an above average IQ.

I finally know why my kids are smart.     Now if I just could get into smaller jeans…

Moody Nose

I’ve heard of right brain, left brain, but  I had never heard this before.  According to “Self” you can use your nostrils to change your mood.

We apparently breathe mostly through one nostril for about an hour and a half to two hours then switch.  The left side relaxes us and the right side makes us alert.  So…to calm down, close your right nostril for a bit,  or to get more alert, close your left nostril and breathe.

Honestly, I haven’t tried this yet, so can’t give a testimonial. : )

A study involving 2 million people from 80 countries shows that depression is most common in people in their 40’s.

It seems there is a U shape curved to happiness. Happy and healthy as a 20 year old, the curve gradually dips to a low in the 40’s , and then by the time the  70’s come around and assuming good health, a person could be as happy as they were in their 20’s.

Self Image

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 by Marnie

Women and girls today are so overwhelmed with images of beautiful and skinny women.  This of course puts unreal expectations on us and can lead to poor self esteem and eating problems.  Along with the girls being influenced, I think the boys are getting an unrealistic image of what girls should be as well.

Twenty years ago, in the eighties, most fashion models were a size 8.  Now, most are a size 0.  During the same time, the average 5′ 4″ woman went from a size 10 to a size 14.  Size 14 now is considered a plus size, but it was the dress size of sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe.  I don’t think she was considered fat!

Dreams And Nightmares

I woke up the other day and realized I had two really bad dreams overnight.  Ones I could remember vividly and one in a re-occuring location.  I rarely remember having “bad” dreams but according to Psychology Today, we may have from 300 to 1,000 aggresive encounters in our dreams yearly.  Dreams like arguments, car crashes, missing a test or meeting or being naked in public are common examples.

Do you believe in a soul mate?  Do you think there is just one special person in the world for you?

The term soul mate means different things to different people.  Some believe a soul mate is a spirit that you are reunited thru reincarnation.  Others think the soul mate will complete a person, that it’s the other half.  And yet others think you and your soul mate are destined to be together.
