How Many Barks Is Too Many?
July 31st, 2007 by MarnieA New Jersey Township committee proposed to put a limit on how many times a dog can bark before it becomes a crime. The proposed ordinance would make it a noise violation if a dog barked, four times a minute for over ten minutes, or two barks per minute for at least a half an hour. “The Star Ledger” reports after an outcry from local residents, who question how this ordinance would be enforced and feared it would pit neighbor against neighbor, the committee has dropped this proposal to work on a compromise. Montgomery Township is not alone in dealing with the issue of barking dogs. Over 170 municipalities in New Jersey alone have dog barking regulations.
